AKAD 30th STATE CONFRENCE, KOTTAYAM

30th State Conference of the All Kerala Association of the Deaf – SILENT FEST 09 – will be held on 2,3,4, October 2009 at Mammen Mappila Muncipal Town Hall, Kottayam with various programmes. It is planned to include the Indian and foreign dignitaries to be participate during the conference. A reception committee was formed on the meeting held at Ooty Lodge; Kottayam. Following dignitaries are selected to form the “Reception committee”. Smt.Lathika Subhash former District Panchayath President, Chair Person, Sri.Ragunath, General Convenor, Sri. Santhosh.C.Edassaril, Organizing Secretary and Sri. James.P.J as Treasurer. Press Conference on the announcement of the “SILENT FEST 09” was held at Kottayam Press Club. Smt. He is a Deaf by birth and studied in Kolathara School, Kozhikode and NISH, Trivandrum. He is the Executive Member of Ernakulam District Association of the Deaf and worked as Graphic Designer in NeST Group, Kochi.

ALL INDIA CULTURAL FESTIVAL FOR THE DEAF

The Industrial capital city of India hosts 10th All India Cultural Festival; for the Deaf conducted at ISKCON auditorium, Harekrishna land, Juhu, Mumbai on 20 to 23 February 2009, where natural beauty mingled with spiritual entity. Colorful personal participation from various states extent a wonderful programme and it remains as an unforgettable experience. About 300 Deaf artists from various states participated in 3 days cultural programme. West Bengal Performed a theme of poor family, consisting father, mother and a son, hailing from Bengal on the stage; hard earn money spent for their sons academic studies. His son earned a good remuneration job from this hard work. In-turn the son fall in love with a rich lady, by which he forgot his hard earning parents. In between unhealthy mother died on poor living condition. At last this Bengal team took the audience to his parent who still leaving in poor condition at Kolkatha. This original theme bags the first prize in-group Drama competition. West Bengal team also worn first prize in mime. Madhya Pradesh team had worn the first prize in Classical Dance. They brought the story of members of the castle of Great Akber the Prince named as JODH AKBER, This was staged by the graduate students from Mook Badhir Vidyalaya, Indore. Mrs. Monica Panjabi, eminent sign language interpreter was the Director, behind the stage, who shared her valuable experiences to these students. Keralas pride Deaf magician Mr. Preeth.P performed a good, skilled magical serial. He extent his magical wonders to audience and worn the prize. 14 members Kerala team lead by Mr. Santhoshkumar.S, President AKAD and Mr. Nizar Moideen, General Secretary actively participated in 10th All India Cultural Festival for the Deaf organized by All India Deaf Arts and Cultural Society, New Delhi and Hosted by Indian Deaf Society, Mumbai. GOLDEN JUBILEE DEAF FLAG WEEK-09

50th National Flag Week of the Deaf was organized by the AKAD in all affiliated districts. Inaugural Functions, Stamp selling and tin collection were organized to boost up the function. Padmasres Bharath Mamootty, eminent cini actor launched our website at Kochi on 11th February 2009. During the launching function he spoke to the members of the fraternity. He open-ended that technical aspect and technology internet to be extent to every citizen, especially down ridden including the Deaf personal. Dr. sebartian paul MP Presided over the function. SPECIAL SCHOOL YOUTH FESTIVAL

State Special school youth festival was conducted at Perinthalmanna, Calicut school for the Handicapped, Kolathara, Kozhikkode and Fr. Augustino Vicini's special school for the Hearing Impaired, Mundamveli, Ernakulam jointly bagged the ovarall winner Gold Cup for the Hearing Impaired wing. HSS for the Deaf, Neerpara, kottayam won the second position. It was decided in atoss that Calicut school for the Handicapped has to keep the "GOLD CUP" won jointly by both team for the first six months and followed by Fr. Augustino Vicini's special school, Mundamvely

 

10th NATIONAL ARTS FESTIVAL FOR THE DEAF

National Arts Festival of the Deaf will be organized by All India Deaf Arts and Culture society, New Delhi from 19th February to 23 February 2009 at ISKCON auditorium, Hare Krishna Lane, Juhu, Mumbai. India Deaf Society, Mumbai will host the festival. Competition will be held for Drama, Mime, Group Dance and Magic. Sri Santhoshkumar, president AKAD will lead 14 members Kerala team for this festival. They will leave for Mumbai on February 18.

5th NATIONAL DEAF CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP AT ASSAM.

5th National Deaf chess championship organized by Silent Sports Promotion Council held at Guhati, Assam from 9 January to 13 January 2009. Teams from various state participated in this championship. A technical error prevented the participation of Kerala team frrom this championship. Meanwhile AKAD state senior team secured first position and won 3rd place in overall championship in the 4th National Deaf Chess championship conducted at Ludhiana, Punjab in 2008.

DISABILITY WORKSHOP AT BANGALORE

AKAD General Secretary Nizar Moideen represented 2 days Disability workshop conducted by National Human Rights Commission on 17 and 18 November 2008 at Nagarabavi National Law School of India University, Bangalore. This 5th Regional workshop conducted on the line of UN convention on the Right of Disabled personnel. Workshop discussed matters on three subjects. i.e Education, Employment and its Access. AKAD General Secretary participated very actively on these discussions. He discussed the matters and brought the attention of authority on various matters pretaining to Deaf from Karala state, such as Education in kerala, its problems, job related cheatings, negative impact on filling up of required vacancies by Public Service Commission, placing sign language interpreters at the public places for convenient conversion between public and deaf personnel. He also handed over an appeal on behalf of AKAD to the NHRC Chairperson Justice Mr. Rajendra Babu regarding LDC selection by KPSC. KPSC suggested graduate level qualification for new appointment as LDC. He requested to NHRC chairperson that Deaf personnel be exempted from this suggestion to upgrade LDC qualification as graduate level.

 

51st International Deaf day celebrations

Various affiliated districts celebrated 51st International Deaf day. Kozhikodu Disrtict Association of the Deaf organized Deaf day programme at Hotel New Nalanda auditorium on 26th September 2008. Sri. Binoy Viswam, Honorable Minister for Forest, Kerala inaugurated the Public meeting. Sri. M. Bhaskaran, Worshipful Mayor of Kozhikodu delivered the message on Deaf day. A seminar was also conducted on the subject Challenges towards employment and social implements of Deaf . C.K.Abdul Salam, Secretary AKPAHI was the moderator. C.K.Abubaker,president, Kerala Federation of the Blind, P.Sameer,Assistant Professor, Medical Collage, Kozhikodu, V.Chandra Mohan, District Social Welfare Officer, Dr. Vijayan, ENT Specialist also participated in the seminar. Mr. Abdul Razack, Principal, Calicut School for the Handicapped, Kolathara delivered lecture on Married life, How Deaf can lead safety life and be safe themselves . Marriage berau constructed by KDAD inaugurated during the meeting. A website constructed by District Association was also launched on this day.

KOTTAYAM.

Badhirasangamam-08 was conducted at Pala Municipal Town Hall on International Deaf day by Kottayam District Association of the Deaf .Sri.K.M.Mani, MLA and former minister for revenue inaugurated the International Deaf day. Sri.Uzhavoor Vijayan, Chairman, Handicapped Development Corporation presided over the function, Sri.Santhosh.C.Edassaryil, Sri.Raghunath, and Sri. Sebastian Mathew led the programme. Arts and Sports competitions for the members were held that day. Smt.Pnnamma Jose, Chairperson, Municipal Council, Pala distribute prizes to winners.

THRISSUR Thrissur District association of the Deaf conducted 3 days programme on the occassion of 51st World Deaf day celebration. During the programme they conducted Seminar, Arts festival of school students, Sports and Arts competition for members and their families. KASSARAGODU.

9th Annual meet of the Kassaragodu District Association of the Deaf and Arts Festival- Badhirolsavam-08 conducted at Municipal Town Hall, Kanjangad and Co-Operative bank Hall, Hosdurg on October 25 and 26 respectively. Sri. Ambika Suthan Mangad inaugurated Arts competition. Public meeting held on the day was inaugurated by Adv. N.Khalid, Municipal Chairman, Kanjangad with a colorful procession. Metro Muhammed Haji distributed prizes. Study class on Awareness on employment were conducted by T.Dineshan, Manager, district Industrial Centre. Mr. Sandeep.K, Trainer Teacher, AJNIHH, Kolkatha lead the classroom instruction on the subject A study on Deaf language . Sri.M.Yousuf, District president, Sri. Rajeevkumar.P, District vice president and Sri. Muhammed Ameen, Distict General Secretary was leading the annual meet.

ERNAKULAM.

Badhirolsavam-08 was organized by Ernakulam District Association of the Deaf at Town Hall, Ernakulam on 15 and 16 November 2008 to commemorate 51st International Deaf day. Around 300 talented participants took part in pencil drawing, painting, single dance, group dance, thrivathira, and oppana competitions. Assisi School for the Deaf, Muvattupuzha bagged the overall championship trophy. HSS for the Deaf, Neerpara and Royal School for the Hearing Impaired, Kothamangalam received the Second and third position respectively. Sri.M.A. Baby, honorable minister for education inaugurated the public meeting. Sri. Nizar Ibrahim, General convener presided over the function. Dr.M.Beena IAS, District Collector gives away the prizes to the winners. Sri. K.K.Peethambaran hoisted the flag. Sri. Nizar Moideen, Sri.Geevarhese, and Sri. IT@ SILENCE 08 THREE-DAY WORKSHOP

AKADs 3 days IT practice workshop organized at HSS for the Deaf, Neerpara, Thalayolaparambu in Kottayam district from 8 May to 11 May 2008. 45 selected participants from various districts of Karala were participated in the camp. They were trained on the field of MS word, MS excel, Internet utilization, Email service etc. Participants gave there fed back that it was very useful for the job owners as well as jobless. This camp was inaugurated by Fr. Abraham Poochakatu and presided over by Sri. K.K.Peethambaran. Sri Monse Joseph, Honble Minister for Public Works inaugurated the valedictory function held in the afternoon of 11.05.2008 and presided over by Sri. Santhoshkumar.S, president AKAD. Sri.K.Ajith MLA, vaikom constituency gives away the prizes to the participants. Hindustan Newsprint Limited, Velloor invited camp delegates for a visit to their establishment. All delegates visited the factory. They satisfied with their visit stating it encourages us for further improvement . 28th Annual State Conference SILENT FEST 07

28th Annual State conference of AKAD and Golden Jubilee of International Deaf day was proudly celebrated in the jubilee hall, Kozhikode on 8th and 9th September, 2007. The conference was named Silent Fest 07. It was a historical event, festival of special school childrens seminar, workshop etc are held in the in this regard. A colourful and cultural International Deaf Day Rally and General Assembly of AKAD were held in silent fest. Above 1000 Deafs from 14 Districts participated the silent fest 07. Sri. V. Gopalakrishnan (AWJNIHH, Secundrabad), Mrs. Lekha Gopalakrishnan, Sri. Sujith Sahasrabhooth (AWJNIHH, Mumbai), Sri. K.Murali (Coimbatore) Participated in various sections in seminar and workshop. Miss Aureli Faradji(Deaf Cycolegist from Paris Universty, France) is the Chief Guest. Deaf Magician Preeth P. presented comody magic. Many Minister, MLAs, MPs and political cultural leaders participated the conference.

3 Days Leadership Camp at Aluva

Three days Leadership Camp was held at YMCA International Centre, Aluva, Kochi on April 30th, 1st and 2nd may 2007 Dr. C.K. Abdul Azeez present Vice Chancellor of Aligad Muslim University and former Vice Chancellor Cochin University of science and Technology (CUSAT) inaugurated the camp named HEARING EYES -07 Sri. Gopalakrishnan (AWJNIHH, secrandrabad), Sri. Deepak Prasad Sahai (General secretary, AIFD); Sri. Sooraj Prakash (Treasurer AIFD)Adv. Sandhya Raju (Director, Human Rights Law), Sri Nizar moideen (General Secretary, AKAD) and V.A. Yusuf (Secretary, AKAD) presented various papers and lectures. General awarencess class of HIV/AIDS was conducted by Rajagiri College of social science. Project report of the proposed computer institute which was donated by CUSAT to AKAD was handed over to Sri. Nizar moideen, General Secretary by the Vice Chancellor Sri. K. Radhakrishnan Chairman presidential over the function. A.M. Yousuf MLA Distribute prizes on the valedictory occasion.

Social Marriage for deaf at Palakkad

In kerala, first deafs social marriage was held at municipal town hall palakkad on 4th February, 2007. Several new deaf couples were married in this function. This was jointly organized by AKAD and palakkad district association of the deaf. Above 1000 member from different association, parents and couples relatives participated in the function. The Honble Electricity Minister Sri. Balan inaugurated the function in the presence of many political leaders MPs and MLAs.
